Riga Airport to the city centre: quick answer

Choose Bus 22 for the lowest daytime fare, N22 for the overnight gap, or a taxi or Bolt for a direct journey to the accommodation. Car sharing and rental cars are more useful when Riga Airport is the start of a wider road trip than for a stay in the city centre.

Bus 22: stop, tickets and journey

Bus 22 is normally the cheapest way to reach central Riga. Riga Airport gives an approximate journey time of 40 minutes, although traffic and the chosen stop can change the total time.

After leaving Arrivals, follow the public-transport signs to the Bus 22 stop in the P1 short-term car park, midway between Arrivals exits E and C. The stop is reached on foot from the terminal.

Where to buy a ticket

Buy through the Rīgas satiksme or Mobilly app, from the ticket machine at the airport stop, or from Narvesen near Arrivals Hall E and in the second-floor check-in hall.

Current fares

A 90-minute ticket costs €1.50. Current visitor passes cost €5 for 24 hours, €8 for three days and €10 for five days.

Buying from the driver

Bus 22 is the exception that sells a ticket on board. It costs €1.81 and payment is by bank card only.

Validate or activate

Follow the app instructions for a mobile ticket. Validate an e-ticket every time you board; purchase alone does not complete the journey.

Check the stop before walking out

Airport construction and temporary traffic arrangements can alter the pedestrian route. Follow current terminal signs and check the official airport map if needed.

Arriving after midnight: Night Bus N22

Night Bus N22 has connected the city centre and Riga Airport every night since 18 April 2026. It fills the overnight gap in the ordinary service and uses the normal Rīgas satiksme fare and discount rules.

From Riga Airport, N22 departs at 00:30, 01:30, 02:30, 03:30 and 04:30. From the Stacijas laukums stop on Marijas iela, it leaves for the airport at 00:00, 01:00, 02:00, 03:00 and 04:00.

Night buses stop on request. At the airport, signal clearly that you want to board; on board, press the stop button before your destination. Check the live timetable because road works or service changes can affect an individual journey.

Which Bus 22 stop is best for your accommodation?

Do not assume that the final stop is best. Choosing the right central stop can avoid a long walk with luggage.

11. novembra krastmala

Best for the riverside edge of Riga Old Town.

Autoosta

Useful for Riga International Bus Station, the Central Railway Station area and accommodation on the southern side of the centre.

Centrāltirgus

Best for Riga Central Market and nearby accommodation.

Nacionālā bibliotēka

Useful for the Latvian National Library and hotels on the Pārdaugava side of the river.

Taxi, Bolt and app-based rides

Riga Airport gives an average journey time of about 20 minutes between the airport and central Riga, but traffic can make it longer. Keep the complete accommodation address ready before ordering.

Bolt app

The app displays an estimated price before confirmation. Bolt vehicles collect passengers from the specially marked pickup area in the P1 short-term car park.

Bolt without installing the app

TapBox screens near Arrivals exits E and C let you enter a destination, choose a vehicle, provide a phone number and pay by bank card. The receipt shows the registration number and expected arrival time; collect the vehicle from P1.

Licensed airport taxi

Licensed airport taxis wait on the carriageway outside the arrivals halls. Check the tariff displayed on the vehicle and confirm the likely fare before departure.

Other taxi operators

Other operators may set different tariffs and there is no universal maximum airport fare. Ask for the price basis before accepting the ride.

Prepaid airport taxi voucher

Riga Airport sells a €33.50 prepaid voucher for one direct journey from the airport to the defined central Riga and Pārdaugava zone. It is valid without intermediate stops for up to four passengers with luggage, subject to the capacity of the vehicle.

Buy the voucher at the Visitor Centre in Arrivals Hall E and show it to the driver before departure. It is accepted only by the airport-licensed XTaxi, TaxiLV and Red Cab services. Confirm that the destination is inside the voucher zone; travel beyond it is charged separately.

Car sharing from Riga Airport

Car-sharing vehicles are collected and returned at the first entrance to long-term car park P4, a few minutes on foot from the terminal. The facility operates 24 hours and Riga Airport currently lists Bolt Drive, Carguru and CityBee.

You normally need the operator's app, an approved account, an accepted driving licence and a payment method before unlocking a vehicle. Complete verification before arrival if car sharing is important to the plan.

Renting a car at Riga Airport

Rental desks are on the first floor of Arrivals Hall E, while the rental fleet is kept in long-term car park P4. Check the chosen company's desk hours and collection instructions when booking.

A rental car makes most sense when Riga is the beginning of a wider Latvian road trip. For a city-only stay, collecting the car after leaving Riga can reduce parking costs and avoid driving in the centre.

How to return to Riga Airport

The Bus 22 stops used toward the airport are not always the same as the inbound stops. Check which departure stop is closest to the accommodation and confirm that the bus display shows “Lidosta”.

Allow extra time during weekday traffic, check temporary service changes and do not rely on an old timetable screenshot. For an early flight, compare N22 with a pre-booked ride and consider whether the walk to the stop is manageable with luggage.

Centrālā stacija

Useful near Riga Central Railway Station.

13. janvāra iela

Useful for Riga International Bus Station and Central Market.

Grēcinieku iela

The most useful return stop for much of Riga Old Town.

Accessibility and travelling with luggage

Bus 22 uses low-floor vehicles, which can make boarding easier for wheelchair users and passengers with pushchairs or luggage. This does not guarantee that every pavement, stop or replacement vehicle will be fully step-free.

Riga Airport provides assistance for passengers with reduced mobility. Arrange airport assistance according to the airport and airline procedures, and allow the required notice and meeting time.
